Non-religious funeral services focus on celebrating the life of the deceased. We customise services that honour and celebrate your loved one, regardless of their affiliation.
While many traditional funeral services have religious undertones, there are many families who seek non-religious services that provide a more secular option for those who don’t practise a particular faith or religion.
At Blessed Funerals we customise bespoke non-religious services, also referred to as secular or humanist funeral services.
We focus on celebrating the life of the deceased and honouring their legacy. We work closely with the family to create a personalised ceremony that reflects the individual’s personality and values.
Flexible and customised funeral services
For many of our clients, a funeral is a solemn ceremony. Whether a burial, cremation or cultural funeral, our funeral directors are experienced with traditional services that reflect many faiths and belief structures. Increasingly, families are seeking non-religious customised funerals that reflect the life lived by their loved one.
Many families choose to hold a service or celebration outside of the traditional chapel or religious setting. Parks, by the beach and other outdoor spaces are becoming popular.
They also incorporate unique elements such as music, poetry, or other readings and stories that reflect the individual’s personality and interests.
We can structure the ceremony itself in a variety of ways. It may include a eulogy, which is a tribute to the deceased that highlights their life accomplishments, personality traits, and other important aspects of their life.
You may also want to invite friends and family members to share their own memories of the individual, providing a more personal and intimate touch to the service.
Non-religious funeral services often include a moment of silence, where attendees can reflect on the life of the deceased and offer their own thoughts.
This can be particularly meaningful for those who don’t follow a particular religious tradition, as it allows them to express their emotions and pay their respects in their own way.
Inclusive and kind
An important aspect of non-religious funeral services is the inclusion of rituals and symbols that hold significance for the deceased and their loved ones and the inclusiveness for people in the loved one’s life who don’t practise a religion.
Symbolic gestures such as lighting candles, releasing balloons, planting a tree, nominating a charity, organisation or team that holds a special place in the memory of the individual provides a kindness that is warming to the attendees.
These acts can help to provide closure and comfort to those who are grieving, and can serve as a reminder of the positive impact that the deceased had on their community and the world.
